I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan and a faculty associate at the Center for Political Studies, Institute for Social Research. I am also a Senior Researcher at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), Norway. I've previously been a fellow and the Belfer Center, at the Harvard Kennedy School (2008/10), and the Kroc Institute at the University of Notre Dame (2010/11)
My research focuses on violent conflict and repression. I have a particular interest in understanding causes, dynamics, and consequences of conflict-related sexual violence. I am one of the co-creators of the Sexual Violence and Armed Conflict dataset (SVAC). My work has appeared in i.a. American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Conflict Resolution, International Studies Quarterly, and Journal of Peace Research. In 2019, I was listed among the 20 most cited scholars in international relations in my cohort.
